Cheques handed over to deceaseds' families of cylinder blast tragedy

Ludhiana, May 10, 2018 (Iqbal Happy): Punjab Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu on Thursday handed over the cheque of Rs one lakh to the next of kin of seven persons killed in cylinder blast tragedy.

The government had announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to the family members of those died in the incident. A total 12 persons has killed in the incident. The cheques for remaining five victims' families have also been prepared but the members are out of the town to complete after death rituals.

Both minister and MP also talked with the family members and also announced the oil gas company Indian Oil would also give a compensation of Rs six lakh to the families of victims died in the mishap. They further added that the injured victims would also get an insurance amount of Rs 1.5 lakh as the company's officials have started completing documental formalities.

On the complaint of some members, they said that those who have paid for treatment in the hospital would get complete reimbursement of the expanses from the government.

They said that local NGO has also come forwarded and taken the responsibility of providing education to the wards of the deceased.

It was very unfortunate incident and the Punjab Government and Congress party will always be present for their families, they added and ensured complete fulsome support to them in future.

On April 26, a cylinder exploded at a residence in Samrat Colony of Giaspura locality in which 34 persons got injured and later 12 of them succumbed.

On the occasion, MLA Sanjay Talwar, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Senior Congress Leader Kamaljeet Singh Karwal, SDM Damanjeet Singh Maan and other were present.
